Cinematographer drowns while filming Jackie Chan blockbuster

A cinematographer shooting a scene for a Jackie Chan blockbuster drowned on Wednesday during a shoot at sea.

Chan Kwok Hung, 51, had been trapped when the 15-metre-long vessel that had been carrying the film crew, including him, capsized off Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. He had been involved in filming for the movie, Skiptrace, starring Jackie Chan and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.

South China Morning Post reported that seven other crew members were able to swim back to shore after the accident.

Apple Daily said the victim could not swim, and was wearing a life jacket.

The boat capsized due to strong winds and waves, and marine police found Chan trapped under the upturned vessel about an hour later. He was pronounced dead in hospital.

It is believed Jackie was not on the vessel at the time of the accident and was resting at a temporary set nearby. On Weibo, he blamed himself for not being able to save Chan.

The deceased leaves behind a wife and two teenage children.
