SHAH ALAM - The police are ready to keep the peace during Selena Gomez's The Revival Tour concert, scheduled to be held at the Stadium Melawati here on July 25.
Selangor deputy chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Fuad Abdul Latiff said that it was not up to the police to approve or cancel the concert.
"Our main priority is security. Whatever the decision, the police will be there to ensure public safety and prevent untoward incidents.
"We will be keeping watch even if the concert is cancelled," he explained.
In another development, Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) "does not support" the concert.
ACP Shafien, however, echoed DCP Fuad, and said that the duty of the police is first and foremost to ensure safety.
PAS Youth had earlier voiced its disapproval over the concert.
Its dakwah committee chairman Hafez Sabri claimed that Gomez's sexy appearance would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal and called on the Selangor Islamic religious council to issue an official letter prohibiting Gomez's concert.
