Six talented singers from Asia Pacific will be performing for the Singapore Lyric Opera's (SLO) Mozart's Così fan tutte at the Esplanade Theatre on Feb 28, March 1 and 3.
Commonly translated as "Women Are Like That", the opera is a comedy of deceit and desire that was first performed in 1790. Helming the production of the opera, which tells a story of a joke gone wrong and the heartbreak and consequences that ensued after, is British-born director, Tom Hawkes, who has also directed Così fan tutte eight times in his 40-year career.
He said: "I have tried to approach the work from a fresh angle with each new production, which keeps the production fresh and new for the audience, the cast and for me!"
Soprano Rachelle Gerodias, one of the Philippines' most-sought after singers, will take on the complex role of Fiordiligi.
Audience can expect a modern and stylish twist to the classic that still retains the elegant charm of Mozart's operas.
