Descendants Of The Sun takes TV grand prize at Baeksang Arts Awards

SEOUL - Descendants Of The Sun took a victory lap at the Baeksang Arts Awards, sealing its immense popularity as it won a top prize at the annual ceremony honouring South Korean film and television.

The KBS romance took the television Grand Prize last Friday, as well as popularity awards for its stars, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, said The Korea Herald.

Best Drama went to the tvN time-bending police thriller Signal, which also won Best Actress for Kim Hye Soo, said the Soompi website.

Song Joong Ki was nominated for Best Actor for his role as a special forces captain in Descendants, but lost the award to Yoo Ah In, who starred as a prince in the SBS period drama Six Flying Dragons.

The tvN nostalgia-tinged drama Reply 1988 won Best Director for Shin Won Ho and Best New Actor for Ryu Joon Yeol.

Best New Actress went to the star of another tvN drama, Kim Go Eun of the romance Cheese In The Trap.

The MBC competition show King Of Masked Singers won Best Entertainment Programme.

In the film categories, the Grand Prize went to director Lee Joon Ik for a pair of movies, the biopic Dongju: Portrait Of A Poet and the historical drama The Throne.
