Dream show

"Living legends" is how local rapper Kevin Lester describes Wu-Tang Clan.

Come March 13, Wu-Tang members Ghostface Killah and Raekwon will roll into town for an intimate gig at Zouk.

Lester, along with rapper Shigga Shay and breakdancing group Radikal Forze will open the gig, while DJs like KoFlow and Ollie'des will continue the after-party till 2am.

The rappers are dropping by ahead of their big gig at Future Music Festival Asia 2014 in Kuala Lumpur on March 15.

"The opportunity presented itself when their agent got in contact with me, and I thought this is the time for a real, authentic hip-hop show," said DJ KoFlow, who together with Radikal Forze leader Felix Huang, are organising the gig, with Red Bull Music Academy as a partner.

"It's been years since we thought, 'How great would it be if Wu-Tang ever came to Singapore?' It was just a dream and we are proud that we could pull through to make it happen," added Huang.

The US hip-hop group is considered one of the greatest rap collectives of all time.

For more than two decades, they have been key influences on other artists such as Kanye West and Jay-Z, as well as up-and-comers like Macklemore, thanks to seminal albums like their 1993 debut Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and the 1997 follow-up Wu-Tang Forever, which topped the Billboard albums chart.

No surprise then that the local acts who get to share the stage with them here are really excited. Said Lester: "You can't mention hip hop without bringing up a unit like them. They helped shape many rappers' journey."

'I WENT BERSERK'

"I went berserk when I heard the news," said DJ Ollie'des.

"I've been spinning their tracks for the past two decades. Now, not only do I get to see them live, I'm invited to spin for the after-party. It's a dream come true for any hip-hop DJ, really."

Their show here will be preceded by a sharing session with Raekwon, as part of Red Bull Music Academy's efforts to grow the local music scene.

Said Huang: "The sharing session will provide an avenue for local producers and music enthusiasts to hear and learn how to progress in their passion in the music industry."

Dancer Badboy from Radikal Forze said: "It's truly a dream come true to even meet them, yet alone to share the same stage.

"There is nothing and no one in the world that can do what they do."
