Filipino singer Charice changes name to Jake Zyrus

Four years after revealing his identity as male, Filipino singer Charice has now changed his name to Jake Zyrus.

The new moniker is reflected in his social media handles as well.

He removed all his previous posts on both Twitter and Instagram and thanked fans for their support in his first tweet as Jake on Tuesday (June 20).

"My first tweet as Jake. Overwhelmed. Saw all your love comments and I'm so happy. Finally. I love you, everyone and see you soon," he said.

In 2013, the 25-year-old singer came out as lesbian after opening up about his sexuality.

He tearfully told Oprah Winfrey in a televised special about the problems he faced since coming out, including falling out with his mother for a period of time.

He added that he was aware of his sexuality at the young age of five.

Jake first shot to fame in 2005 as Charice Pempengco, the pint-sized powerhouse vocalist.

Since then, Charice appeared on several US television programs such as The Ellen Show, Glee and even performed onstage with Celine Dion.
