Former Singapore actress Wang Xiuyun dies aged 72

SINGAPORE - Former actress Wang Xiuyun died of kidney failure yesterday (Aug 9), Lianhe Zaobao reported.

She was 72.

Wang is best remembered for her roles in local TV dramas broadcast during the 1980s and 1990s. Her moving portrayal of a loving mother in A Mother's Love (1989), which also starred Li Nanxing, Xie Shaoguang and Zoe Tay, touched the hearts of many viewers.

Wang retired from showbiz in 1998 and became a salesperson.

Former actor Bernard Tan was cited by Lianhe Zaobao as saying that Wang had diabetes and was sent to a nursing home as there was no one at home to take care of her. She then suffered from end-stage kidney disease, but refused dialysis.
