Hee joins Sun at Taipei gig

Taipei - Stefanie Sun sprang a surprise at her concert last Saturday, when her compatriot Mavis Hee appeared on stage in Taipei for the first time in 12 years and the two sang Moonlight In The City.

Their performance of Hee's signature song was an emotional boiling point of the show at the Taipei Arena, said Taiwan Apple Daily.

Hee, who has not been active in entertainment after a breakdown eight years ago, seemed slightly fuller figured than before and was in an ethnic dress. But her ethereal voice was unchanged, said the report.

The two Singaporean singers hugged at the end of their duet, and Sun said: "I'm so happy. I've loved Mavis' songs for a long time and I'm finally sharing a stage with her."

Hee said the last time she was in Taiwan, it was to see Sun in concert four years ago.

After greeting local fans and thanking Taiwanese reporters for "taking care of her" in the past, Hee, 39, performed another of her songs, Regret.

The singer, who appeared at a show for Shenzhen Satellite TV last year, may finally be inching back into the limelight, said the report.

Sun planned the surprise in October last year, said Taiwan Apple Daily. After she asked Hee to sing at her show and Hee agreed, she issued a gag order on her staff to keep Hee's appearance a secret, said the report.

Until Saturday afternoon, the musicians were the only people who knew the guest singer's identity.

Sun, 35, kicked off her first world tour since motherhood in Taipei last Friday. After two nights in the Mandopop capital, the NT$62-million (S$2.6- million) show will next land in Shanghai on April 19.

Her new album is scheduled for release on Feb 27.
