HK actor Moses Chan says watching TV bad for son's eyes

He might be one of Hong Kong small screen's top leading men, but Moses Chan is adamant about keeping his child's world totally TV-free.

The TVB actor told The New Paper in Mandarin over the phone that his son Aiden, who turns one in December, has "never watched a single day of TV".

"At this age, watching TV is really bad for his eyes," said Chan, 48.

He is married to Canadian-born actress Aimee Chan, 33.

"Aimee and I don't want to start him on TV so early. We'll only introduce him to it when he's older.

"TV-watching habits in children should definitely be moderated."

The stance is surprising coming from Chan, a veteran star who has spent 15 years in Hong Kong TV.

He's also snagged many accolades throughout his two-decade career, including Best Actor at the TVB Anniversary Awards in 2007 and Asian Television Awards in 2011.

Professing to be a "very hands-on daddy" who has no problems handling baby duties like changing diapers, Chan said he loves singing nursery rhymes to his son.

"The thing is, I've long forgotten the lyrics of these children's rhymes," he said with a laugh. "I had to familiarise myself with them all over again."

Which is just as well because Aimee revealed last weekend that she is three months pregnant with their second child.

ANOTHER ONE ON THE WAY

When TNP spoke to Chan, the news of Aimee's pregnancy had not broken, but Chan hinted about welcoming a new addition to their family.

"Aimee and I are on the same page. We certainly want more than one child as we don't want Aiden to feel lonely," he said.

Chan, who had his showbiz breakthrough in 1994's seminal Gen X movie Twenty Something, will be in town next January for ensemble gig Hong Kong Superstars In Concert.
