Jolin Tsai lasered in eyes during performance

Jolin Tsai was the victim of laser beams directed at her eyes while she was on stage at the Rye Music Festival.

Videos show the Mandopop diva trying to avoid the green laser and closing her eyes on Saturday (May 25) in Beijing.

Despite that, she carried on and completed her performance.

"She noticed and avoided the laser during the show. Jolin is safe and sound," the 38-year-old's reps wrote on Weibo.

Rye Music Festival also apologised to Jolin via Weibo and strongly condemned such behaviour, as well as promising to conduct stricter security checks.

Outraged fans called the perpetrators "low class" and "no conscience", and expressed worry for the Taiwanese singer's vision.

Asked again by Apple Daily Taiwan whether she would seek a proper eye check, Jolin's manager insisted she was fine.

According to Patty Vision Center in the US, regulated commercial laser devices can cause momentary blindness, but not permanent damage unless the light is concentrated on the eye for more than 10 seconds.
