Kanye gets $3.8m for Kazakhstan gig

SINGAPORE - After Jennifer Lopez had to apologise for performing at the birthday party of Turkmenistan president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in June, comes news of US rapper Kanye West's foray into Kazakhstan.

The 36-year-old flew to the city of Almaty to perform at the wedding of the grandson of the country's president Nursultan Nazarbayev last Saturday.

Sources told TMZ that West was apparently paid a cool US$3 million (S$3.8 million) for the gig.

No word yet on whether he'll have to do a JLo and apologise post-show - President Nursultan, like President Gurbanguly, has been criticised for his country's poor human rights record.
