Kiss92 station edges out rivals in two survey indexes

ENGLISH radio station Kiss92 FM has been ranked top in two of three indexes in the latest Nielsen Radio Diary Survey released yesterday.

It pushed out MediaCorp stations Class95 and Gold 90.5FM from the top spots in market share and when it came to how long listeners spent on the channels respectively.

MediaCorp's Class95 was ranked first in having the most listeners among English stations here. It had 621,000 listeners tuning in at least once a week, although it lost 68,000 listeners since the last survey six months ago.

Kiss92 FM, run by SPH UnionWorks, recorded a 16 per cent jump in listenership to 485,000 over a six-month period to claim third on the list, behind Gold 90.5FM.

Kiss92, which went live in September last year, is the first local radio station aimed at women aged 30 to 50. It had 151,000 listeners when the same poll was conducted just after its launch.

It plays mainly pop music and features experts who comment on topics ranging from relationships to health and fashion.

"We are obviously very happy with the results. It definitely shows that we are on the right track, and we will continue to keep up the momentum and grow from strength to strength," said senior programme director Jamie Meldrum.

The other English radio station under SPH UnionWorks, Hot FM91.3, retained its top spot as the most-listened-to English hit music station with a weekly listenership of 333,000.

SPH UnionWorks' only Mandarin radio station, UFM 100.3, kept its fourth place among Chinese radio stations, with a listenership of 266,000. "The fans are what drive the team to grow stronger, and we will strive to continuously improve our music and content for our listeners," said Ms Carine Ang, its programme director.
