Latest Lady Gaga music video: Crazy, funny, strange, random

What a relief.

After the high-minded arty-farty talk preceding the release of Applause, her first single from upcoming album Artpop, Lady Gaga gave the world a video that is equal parts crazy and funny.

In it, the 27-year-old mixes references to early renaissance Italian painter Botticelli's The Birth Of Venus with the famous 1993 Rolling Stone cover of Janet Jackson naked from the waist up, her lady bits covered by former husband Rene Elizondo, Jr.

Of course, this wouldn't be a Gaga video if there wasn't something completely strange and random, like a scene in which her head appears on a bird's body, framed by an egg we presume it was hatched from.

Inez van Lamsweerde, one half of the directing duo Inez & Vinoodh who helmed the video, explained to MTV News: "She's always had the egg reference in her work... So we said, 'Okay, an egg... a fur egg and what comes out of a fur egg?' In our minds, a black swan with her face on it."

See? Nothing complicated there. Just a random idea anyone would have had.
