Local celebrities gather for photoshoot for SG50 book

SINGAPORE - A veritable who's who of Singapore's arts and entertainment scene gathered at the Esplanade Theatre's stage for a photoshoot on Nov 2.

The photoshoot was for an upcoming book, tentatively titled 'Living The Singapore Story: 1965-2015', The Straits Times reports.

Celebrities at the shoot included actresses Zoe Tay and Fann Wong, actor Lim Kay Tong, who will portray Lee Kuan Yeew in the upcoming film '1965', TV personality Gurmit Singh, film director Jack Neo and theatre director Ivan Heng.

"I knew that among us would be great artists, who have given so much of their passion, their talent, their energy to be part of the book, and I felt greatly honoured and privileged to be included." said Heng.

Actress Zoe Tay said: "I am very thankful that The Straits Times invited me for this shoot. For 20 over years I have been in this industry, and I wish this book will be remembered as well."

"This is a very important moment for me. I was born here, and I see so many changes. The arts scene is much bigger and more challenging," says musician Ramli Sarip.

TV host Najip Ali paid tribute to the Iskandar Mirza Ismail, who passed away last Saturday, saying he felt sad that the late musical maestro was not there as they had shared the Esplanade Stage many times.

Comedian Hossan Leong said: "I didn't know I would be in the company of so many people that I look to. I am very honoured."

Actress Xiang Yun said that Singapore has changed a lot over the past 50 years. "I'm happy to have been part of this journey It's an honour to be part of Singapore's 50th birthday book. I'd like to wish Singapore prosperity and a better future ahead," she added.

According to The Straits Times, the book is meant to commemorate Singapore's golden jubilee next year, and is commissioned by the National Library Board and will be produced by The Straits Times Press.
