Local telemovie Spelling Armadillo nominated for Emmy Kids Awards

SINGAPORE - Local telemovie Spelling Armadillo has been nominated for the 4th International Emmy Kids Awards in the categry of Kids: TV Movie/Mini-Series.

This is the first time a Southeast Asian production is nominated under the category in the awards, which will take place on April 5 next year in Cannes.

The programme, jointly produced by Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), MediaCorp and Oak3 Films, was first broadcasted in Singapore on Channel 5 earlier this year.

Spelling Armadillo explores the themes of rediscovering self-confidence and finding the courage to pursuit one's dreams.

It tells the story of a boy named Tom, who wants to be left alone a he believes that by being inconspicuous, he will be able to stay out of trouble.

But everything seems to be set against him. Thrust into the school's spelling competition, Tom and his crew of oddball friends must deal with the challenges of school, self-doubt and emotional life choices.

A sequel to Spelling Armadillo is currently being filmed in Singapore and is slated for release next year.

Industry group assistant chief executive officer Angeline Poh said the nomination is a "great endorsement of the quality of the Singapore-made show".

"We hope that this achievement will inspire more of our producers to strive to create engaging content that resonates with their audiences and stand out in the highly competitive global market", said Ms Poh.
