Miley can't stop, won't stop

Miley can't stop, won't stop

She's done it again.

Miley Cyrus put up yet another shocking display - this time, at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) in Amsterdam on Sunday.

When the 20-year-old took to the stage to receive the Best Video award for her hit song Wrecking Ball, she took out something from her purse, lit it and smoked it.

"I couldn't fit this award in my bag, but I did find this," she said.

Reports later alleged she was smoking marijuana.

It is her boldest act to date, after her raunchy performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year, where she did the now-infamous twerking and used a foam finger provocatively.

Has she crossed the line with her latest attention-grabbing act?

"We know Miley will do anything to shake off her Hannah Montana persona, but to me, this is definitely too much," said HOT FM 91.3 DJ Gerald Koh, aka Boy Thunder.

Hype Records boss Ken Lim, 49, agreed.

He said: "I think she needs to stop all her nonsense. If she really has what it takes in terms of vocal chops, she wouldn't feel the need for all these.

She's basically doing everything it takes in order to gain traction and the media attention that she needs."

Her brazen act garnered quite a reaction from netizens on Twitter.

"She's talented but not using her fame for good," ChristlJZDabu said on Twitter.

Another user, Crown_TheKid, said: "I remember when we all thought Lady Gaga was crazy, but then Miley Cyrus happened..."

A source told Us Weekly that the star had been smoking backstage the whole time, calling the act "brazen, shameless and so uncalled for".

The irony? The antics stole the limelight from her great performances.

Cyrus opened the star-studded event, which saw stars like Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Kings Of Leon and Ellie Goulding in attendance, with We Can't Stop off her successful album Bangerz.

The galactic-themed performance saw her in a silver knee-length dress - conservative by her standards - as she twerked a grand total of two times (yes, just two).

It was entertaining and refreshing to watch Cyrus once again test the limits of her own creativity, sans the near-nakedness. Her second performance, in which she sang Wrecking Ball, showed off her vocal chops perfectly.

While her outfit choice - a revealing white leotard - was a reflection of her usual self, there was nothing thrashy about Cyrus' heartfelt rendition of Wrecking Ball, which featured a giant screen of her in tears behind.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

WHEN KATY PERRY SHONE

It was hard to make out her outfit at first - a robe with long pieces of pink, purple and teal cloth attached to it. The cloth spread out beneath her as she was elevated off the ground.

As she sang her new hit Unconditionally, she removed the robe to reveal a reflective outfit which glistened. It was a beautiful performance and the singer looked and sounded like an angel.

WHEN REDFOO PLAYED INTERGALACTIC EMCEE

Redfoo, one-half of duo LMFAO, played wacky, over-the-top host - with nine outfit changes, no less. His outrageous antics included stripping down to shiny underwear and stage-diving into the crowd..

All in all, an entertaining night.

WHEN EXO DIDN'T WIN

In a shocking twist, the popular 12-member K-pop boy band failed to take home the Worldwide Act trophy.

Chinese singer-actress Chris Lee, 29, beat EXO and the likes of English-Irish boy band One Direction and Canadian teen heart-throb Justin Bieber to take home the award in the fan-voted category.

EXO fans expressed their disappointment on Twitter, with some calling the result "unfair".

For others, the fact that One Direction also failed to clinch the trophy more than made up for it.
