New accusations untrue, says Li Yapeng

Former celebrity couple Faye Wong and Li Yapeng's SmileAngel Foundation blasted an online whistleblower's new accusations against Li.

On Monday, blogger Zhou Xiaoyun alleged that the foundation had embezzled nearly 55 million yuan (S$11,400) of donations from organisations and celebrities, reported NetEase website. In a Weibo post, Zhou claimed that Li spoke of donating 1 million yuan to his organisation in 2006 to set the ball rolling, but did not actually make the donation.

Last December, Zhou alleged that Li, a former actor, had enriched himself in the name of Shuyuan China Culture Development Foundation. Li, singer Wong's former husband, denied Zhou's accusations then.

On Monday, a SmileAngel executive told WCC Daily in Chengdu that Zhou's new allegations were "malicious slander" and that the foundation "reserves the right to sue". But the executive made an offer to Zhou, "warmly inviting" him to inspect the offices of SmileAngel and Shuyuan if he is "really concerned" about China's public welfare.

SmileAngel was founded by Wong and Li in 2006 in aid of children with cleft lips and palates, after their daughter, Li Yan, was born with the condition.

The couple ended their marriage last year.
