New York Fashion Week 2014: Lacoste & Tommy Hilfiger

NEW YORK - Two major brands showcased at New York Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2014-15 showed collections with a common theme ‒ the great outdoors. Lacoste looked to French Basque country, while Tommy Hilfiger scouted the great American trail. Both came up with Autumn Winter collections that reflected each brand's identity, and country of origin.

LACOSTE AW14-15

Lacoste, under the creative direction of Felipe Oliveira Baptista, held its Autumn Winter 2014-15 show on February 8, 2014, at the Lincoln Center in New York City. Sporty, chic looks, which are now synonymous with the brand, hit the runway. Chantaco ‒ a golf course built by the father of Simone Thion de la Chaume (the wife of Rene Lacoste ) in the 1920s situated in the Basque region of France ‒ and its heritage was the starting point for the collection.

Oliveira Baptista gathered a set of images taken in the ancestral clubhouse ‒ including the lawns, trees and unstained art deco pieces ‒ that were translated into the colour palette.

Cap-a-pie looks in shades of green, blue, red and beige comprised the collection with the appearance of stripes, checks and argyle accents in few garments. The clean, light silhouettes of the clothes imparted an air of elegant, comfortable sportswear.

TOMMY HILFIGER AW14-15

Tommy Hilfiger returned to the Park Avenue Armory for its Autumn Winter 2014-15 show ‒ last season it was held at Pier 94 ‒ on February 10, 2014. Inside the historic brick building was a hiking trail filled with snow that lead to a giant mountain backdrop.

This trail served as the runway for models wearing designs from the brand that were inspired by the great American outdoors but retained the brand's luxe preppy style. A range of mountaineering gear and western workwear with a hint of a bohemian sensibility was paraded down the trail.

Tartans which are one of Hilfiger's trademarks appeared in peacoats, dress shirts and skirts, as well as on its bags and accessories. Items for a timberland trek such as cable-knit patchworked ponchos, puffer vests, bomber jackets, bonnets and hiking boots were also shown. An adventure-read explorer is what Hilfiger's woman is this season.
