Samarpana to show off young dancer

SINGAPORE - Samarpana, the Asian festival of classical dance, has been providing a platform to upcoming dancers to showcase and hone their skills. It gives them the opportunity to perform in front of a big audience.

This year Samarpana will showcase the talent of Singapore-based dancer Diya Gopalan, a bharatanatyam student of Gayatri Sriram.

Ms Gopalan will perform her production Sankhya, which premiered in Bengaluru earlier, on Sept 28 from 5pm at the Drama Centre. A bharatanatyam repertoire based on a contemporary theme, Sankhya will tell the tale of numbers. The performance is based on the decimal system of counting and uses various Indian philosophies and beliefs in its narration such as the concepts of duality, the trinity, the four vedas and the panchabhootas.

Samarpana will be held from Sept 27 to 29 at the Drama Centre of the National Library Building. Tickets range from $20 to $70 and can be bought from SISTIC.
