Singapore-Malaysia joke-off in 'Laugh Die You'

KUALA LUMPUR: Are Malaysians funnier than Singaporeans? Or are our neighbours more amusing than we give them credit for?

Whatever your answer, you can be sure it's worth betting your funny bone on.

The first of its kind in Malaysia, Laugh Die You will present the best of comedy from Malaysia and Singapore on one stage.

Set to be held at the HGH Convention Centre here from May 14-15, it promises to bring the rivalry between the two countries to greater, side-splitting heights.

"Be prepared as well to be entertained by the best in Singapore, JB and some say even Batam!" said Gurmit Singh of the event's distinctive take on Malaysian versus Singaporean comedy.

The hilarious Mr Phua Chu Kang himself will host the two-and-a-half hour show, which will see Malaysian stand-up comedian Douglas Lim take on Singapore's hilarious motormouth queen Kumar.

The show is also set to feature homegrown stand-up comedian Rizal van Geyzel.

The audience will also be able to party on when popular Malaysian rock band Hydra takes the stage post-show.

Popcorn Studio Sdn Bhd, the organisers of Laugh Die You - a direct translation of a Cantonese phrase siu sei lei and means "to laugh until you die" - expect at least 4,000 comedy-lovers to pack the venue.
