Standing ovation at Globes for Paris attacks pledge

LOS ANGELES - Hollywood's finest gave a standing ovation Sunday as Golden Globes organizers pledged support for freedom of expression, including in North Korea and over the deadly Paris attack on Charlie Hebdo.

"Together we will stand united against anyone who will repress free speech, anywhere, from North Korea to Paris," said Theo Kingma, head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), bringing the applauding audience to its feet.

A short time later, Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto also paid a moving tribute, even speaking French.

"To our brothers, sisters, friends, and family in France, our thoughts, our prayers, our hearts are with you tonight. On vous aime. Je suis Charlie ("We love you. I am Charlie")," Leto said.

Amy Adams also broached the issue backstage, after winning the best comedy/musical actress Globe for "Big Eyes." "My heart goes out to everybody in Paris and everybody who has been touched by violence," Adams told reporters.

On the red carpet, several stars including George Clooney, Helen Mirren and Kathy Bates displayed the "Je Suis Charlie" slogan that has become a rallying cry in the wake of the deadly gun attack on French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.
