Twitterati or twit?

Lady Gaga is 28 this year.

But, according to an analysis performed by time.com, she tweets at the level of a Primary 5 student.

And if Kanye West were still in school, he would not have got past Primary 4 based on time.com's analysis of his tweets.

The smartest celebrity tweeter?

That would be Leonardo DiCaprio, who has been ranked as the brightest among the top 500 most-followed celebrities on Twitter.

He sits comfortably above the crowd at the level of a Secondary 2 student.

The article, published in Time magazine on Wednesday, had obtained these findings through the use of a commonly utilised reading comprehension test known as the Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (Smog).

To determine how "sharp" each celebrity is, the test counts the number of three syllable words used in a tweet and displays the required number of schooling years required for one to comprehend it.

Results from a test performed on a million tweets concluded that anyone who has passed Primary 4 will be able to understand the average tweet.

Of course, there are limitations to the test: Only tweets in English can be analysed, and the test may read certain slangs as multiple words, rendering it inaccurate.

That could explain why reality show star Jenni "Jwoww" Farley is at No. 8, above award-winning Brazilian author Paulo Coelho (No. 15) and Harry Potter creator JK Rowling (No. 34).
