UK reality show to inform Angie Bowie of ex-husband's death

LONDON - The ex-wife of David Bowie, Angie, has so far remained unaware of his death because she is a contestant on reality television show "Celebrity Big Brother" in Britain, the producers said Monday.

In the show, contestants live in a house and are cut off from contact with the outside world, meaning that the 66-year-old will be informed while cameras are not rolling.

"Following the very sad news of David Bowie's death this morning, we can confirm that Angie Bowie will be informed off camera today at the earliest opportunity," said a spokesman for "Celebrity Big Brother", a Channel 5 show.

"We will update further once this has taken place." It is not known whether or not she will remain on the show, the latest episode of which is due to screen Monday night, in the wake of the announcement that the 69-year-old had died of cancer Sunday.

Angie Bowie was married to David Bowie for 10 years until their divorce in 1980, and the two have a son together, film director Duncan Jones.

She has previously told fellow contestants on the show that she had not seen her ex-husband for 40 years, adding: "I go to great lengths to avoid him."
