Wilson and Vaughn save the day

Wilson and Vaughn save the day

THE INTERNSHIP (PG13) Comedy/120 minutes

Rating: 2.5/5

The first thing you'll notice while watching this film is that it is loaded with advertisements of sorts for Web-search company Google.

Everything is centred on the multinational company, and audiences are treated to an insider's view of the "privileged" lives of Google employees. Watching this movie will make you want to score a job at the company too.

The Internship revolves around salesmen Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson), who try to secure jobs at Google after the company they work for shuts down.

Billy searches for work on - where else - Google, hilariously looking up "Jobs for people with few skills" and, while doing so, he inexplicably gets an epiphany: Why not work at Google?

Billy manages to land an interview for an internship at the company, and drags a reluctant Nick away from his short stint as a mattress salesman.

It is all rather predictable after that, as they get grouped with a bunch of stereotypical misfits.

The two of them act as big brothers to the other interns, known as "Nooglers" or "New Googlers", by teaching them that academic ability is not all there is to life.

Fighting to remain relevant in a technological world, the duo have to prove themselves to their detractors - even their fellow group members do not believe in them at first.

Herein lies the film's message: Chase your dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.

While the jokes cracked in this film may be rather slapstick, Vaughn and Wilson still elicit laughter.

Their on-screen chemistry is palpable and does most of the heavy lifting. The ensemble cast do an adequate job, but are not very memorable.

The Internship is a good movie for passing the time, and will have you in stitches as you follow Vaughn and Wilson's antics.

Otherwise, it is a fairly forgettable film.
