Fire disrupts Bukit Panjang LRT service

SINGAPORE - Train service on the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) has been stopped, SMRT announced earlier this evening.

A witness at the scene told The Straits Times that smoke was seen coming from Senja Station. The fire alarm was activated at 6pm and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has responded.

ChannelNews Asia also tweeted that SCDF has confirmed a fire inside Senja Station's electrical room.

"No train service on #BPLRT in both directions. Free public & shuttle buses are now available at affected stations," SMRT tweeted at 6.01pm.

SMRT posted on its Facebook page at 6.30pm that the breakdown is due to a "traction power trip between Pending and Petir stations".

Investigations are ongoing.
