The 'Flash' is back and flying again

The 'Flash' is back and flying again

Six starts, three wins, two seconds and a fourth. Saratoga Stable must be proud of what FLASH GIFT has accomplished so far and John O'Hara could not have asked for such a lovely horse to train.

Well, Flash Gift is not done yet and, come Sunday, he could add another entry to his already-impressive resume by taking Race 8 from right under the noses of some pretty decent runners like Savannah Dancer, Hypernova and Bourbon Goldman.

Flash Gift showed that he was on track for another win when he produced an outstanding gallop at Kranji Wednesday morning, with jockey I Saifudin on the reins, the three-year-old ran the 600m in 36.1sec - finishing with quite a bit in reserve.

He will have Manoel Nunes in the saddle for the 1,200m on Sunday and, if anything, it should enhance his chances.

Flash Gift started building up his fan base when he won on debut, taking an Initiation over the 1,100m by almost four lengths.

That was in June last year. Three weeks later he won again, beating Soul Commander over the flying 1,000m.

He made it three on the trot when, in August last year, he beat Running Tall by two and a half lengths over the 1,200m trip.

He was then put in cotton balls for 11 months and only returned to racing in July this year. He looked beefed-up after the break and tipped the scales at 525kg - well over his fighting weight of 490-plus.

Still, he put on a tip-top show and got beaten into second spot by One Smart Cat. A month later he ran fourth in a Benchmark 74 race and, in his last start on Sept 29, he beat all but Super Kenny over the sharp 1,000m.

With regular rider Greg Cheyne back in South Africa, the Brazilian Nunes gets the mount and we think he'll guide Flash Gift home to his fourth win. Be sure you're with them.
