The cup that cheers, anytime of the day

Three years ago, Singaporean Jerry Singh was inspired to set up a tea company here.

Today, the four outlets of Chaitime are a popular hangout for many in Singapore. At Chaitime, tea is much more than a beverage. It is a perfect excuse for people to get together to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.

In a typical Indian home, the day begins and often ends with steaming cups of chai. It's a welcome ritual that fuels conversations and strengthens bonds and is considered the very fabric of Indian life.

Said Mr Singh: "We wanted to bring this very feel to Singapore, adding a bit of our unique touches to it."

Visiting any of the four outlets, one can't help but pay attention to the thought-provoking concept and creativity. There is certainly an exquisite, yet simple setting. The theme of modern lighting from London and old-fashioned chairs found in India blends a mix of new and old perfectly.

Tea lovers are not only treated to the seven hot and ice-blended types of tea but also to a range of fusion "East meets West" sweet, savouries, eggless cakes and wraps.

"We want to reach out to all consumers and not only provide a refreshing product, but educate people on what chai and tea really is about," said Mr Singh who previously worked with a commodities firm.

Chaitime serves four types of masala chai, which seem to be a favourite among those who patronise the four outlets. Masala chai is an exotic range of chai blended with handpicked Indian spices that capture the traditions of the different regions of India. The four types are:

Spicy Masala Chai: A lively blend of Assam black tea with cardamom, ginger, black pepper and cinnamon, which originated in the north-western state of Gujarat.

Relaxing Cardamom Chai: An invigorating blend of Assam black tea and the finest, handpicked cardamom that is immensely popular in northern India.

Revitalising Ginger Chai: A zesty blend of Assam black tea and fresh Indian ginger, this chai has a spicy bite and a warm aftertaste that is much sought after in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India.

Refreshing Lemongrass Chai: An uplifting blend of lemongrass and Assam black tea with end notes of fresh ginger. This chai has its roots in the state of Maharashtra.

Chaitime outlets are located at AXA Towers, Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3, Chevron House and Asia Square Tower 2.
