Food picks: Tableside Teppanyaki
Wasabi Bistro at Mandarin Oriental was relaunched earlier this year as Teppan-ya, a teppanyaki restaurant.
Chefs prepare the teppanyaki at newly constructed counters, with diners seated in front to watch them at work.
A highlight is the Australian wagyu, which comes as part of a $120 lunch set that includes starters, vegetables and rice. But you can also opt for cheaper sets, such as the $56 chicken course.
Some popular items from Wasabi Bistro have been kept on the menu. A must-try is an original creation called Kumi's No. 1. The Western-style sushi costs $13.50, but it is a huge ball packed with crabmeat, white fish and avocado. Covered in a cheese sauce before being baked, the result is so delicious I require a lot of restraint not to order a second piece.
