Funky flavoured brews at Alchemist Beer Lab

SINGAPORE - Even beer lovers have days when they tire of the regular brew.
A fairly new bar at South Beach may have just the right tipples for times like this.
Alchemist Beer Lab, which opened in September, boasts eight colourful towers of infused beers carrying the flavours and aromas of ingredients such as fruit, herbs and spices.
The towers are part of a sophisticated $100,000 system from the United States, which makes use of compressed gas to maximise flavour extraction flavours from the added ingredients.
Swopping of ingredients is easy, and the menu is updated at least once a week.
At a media tasting last week, the line-up ranged from the light-tasting 50 Shades of Pink - a cider infused with pink guava - to the heavy-bodied Obama, a stout infused with toasted marshmallow, vanilla pod and mint leaves.
My favourite was Honey Trap, a mead infused with ginger and lemongrass.
Despite being easy to drink, the alcohol content of the infused beers remains at the usual five per cent or more.
Alchemist Beer Lab also serves draught beers from local microbrewery Little Island Brewing Company, which shares the same owners, whiskies (prices vary) and house wines ($15 each).
Beers are priced at $12 each during happy hour from 12pm to 7pm, and $15 after that.
Complement your drinks with snacks and tapas such as pork scratchings, smoked wagyu brisket tortilla and Thai-style chicken wings.
