THE DAILY PRESS

The Daily Press is not the name of a new newspaper nor is it a shop that specialises in cold-pressed juices.

Instead, the cafe serves sandwiches toasted in a panini press and artisan coffee by Liberty, a local roastery. It is owned by Mr Nicholas Chua, 27, and Ms Tan Mei Chin, 23.

Items on its menu, created by its chef Chen Siyuan, 27, include the Classic ABC sandwich with green apple, house-smoked bacon and cheddar; the Babi Pongteh sandwich - Peranakan-styled stewed pork belly with fermented soya beans and soya sauce between slices of bread; and the Roast Beef Sandwich - slices of roast beef served with toum, a citrusy garlic sauce from the Middle East. Sandwiches are priced between $10 and $15 each.

Other highlights include the Korean "Fried" Chicken ($12) - crispy baked chicken coated with panko crumbs and served with housemade kimchi.

Coffee starts at $3.50 for an espresso.

LJJ CAFE

Head back in time at LJJ Cafe, an eatery inspired by the 1960s.

Catering company Neo Group's eatery features traditional local favourites such as kaya butter toast ($3.60 for a set), curry chicken ($5.50 with rice or bread), and mee siam ($4.80) and laksa ($5.20).

The cafe's name LJJ is short for Neo Group's founder Mr Neo Kah Kiat's hanyu pinyin name Liang Jia Ji.

It has also acquired two other brands - Choz Confectionery and Fu Yuan for assorted handmade kueh and snacks - to feature at LJJ Cafe too.
