Singapore food franchise Chewy Junior plans to open three more outlets in Brunei next year.

In an email interview with The Brunei Times, Chewy Junior Singapore managing director Kevin Ong said that the master franchisee in Brunei is looking to open new outlets at "three good locations" in 2014.

"Depending on the business growth and progress, there is always a possibility when the business makes economic sense," Ong said.

The sultanate's first Chewy Junior outlet opened at the Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah complex on October 25.

Ong said that Brunei's master franchisee, which also owns the franchise for KFC in Brunei, approached Chewy Junior in Singapore a year ago to discuss setting up in the country.

"We had been studying the market in Brunei and found that it's the right time to bring Chewy Junior there," he said.

Chewy Junior was the latest of new international franchises that set foot in Brunei over the recent years. American franchise Auntie Anne's Pretzels opened its first Brunei outlet at Freshco Mall the same month.

Founded in 2007, Chewy Junior already has a presence in a number of ASEAN countries, as well as further in Dubai and Korea.

Ong revealed that its presence and partnership with its master franchisee in Brunei, as well as Sarawak and Sabah will help establish its branding for its regional expansion.
