Names like Pep Guardiola, Fabio Capello, Antonio Conte and Diego Simeone have been linked with the manager's job at Manchester United.
But the one most frequently linked with the hot seat at Old Trafford has been Louis van Gaal, who will take Holland to the World Cup Finals in Brazil next month.
After the spectacular failure of David Moyes, the Red Devils' decision to go with the tried-and-tested has gone down well with fans.
Former United and Scotland striker Alan Brazil believes that van Gaal has the aptitude for what is one of the biggest jobs in the football world.
In a glittering managerial career, the 62-year-old Dutchman has won league titles and European Cups, and has managed some of the most glamorous names in club football, like Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Speaking to The New Paper yesterday, Brazil said: "I was hoping for Moyes to be given more of a chance, but that's finished now.
WONDERFUL RECORD
"Van Gaal's record is wonderful. He is a big figure."
"He won't be intimidated by the size of United, and you need to have that attitude."
"Some people say that United were too big for Moyes, but it won't be too big for van Gaal, who has been at massive clubs."
Brazil, who is now a popular sports talkshow host in the UK, is a guest for this weekend's Singapore Cricket Club International Football Sixes.
He believes the only drawback could be van Gaal's current commitment with the Dutch national team, which will prevent him from immediately starting the rebuilding job at United.
Holland kick off their World Cup campaign in a mouth-watering repeat of the 2010 final against Spain on June 13.
If the talented Dutch go all the way, then United's new boss will begin work only after the final on July 13.
The 2014/15 English Premier League season kicks off on Aug 16.
The size of the task at United is huge, according to Brazil.
The Scot, a gifted striker who starred for Ipswich under Bobby Robson in the late 1970s before moving to Old Trafford, believes the new boss of the Red Devils will have to bring in a "minimum of eight players" to get them back among the top four in the English Premier League.
"Make no mistake, United, to take on the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City, are going to need a minimum of eight new players."
"They are going to need a whole new back four, for starters," said the 54-year-old.
"There won't be (Nemanja) Vidic and (Rio) Ferdinand. Whoever goes in to fill those shoes, that partnership is going to find things very difficult."
"And whoever is going to buy players on van Gaal's behalf is going to be very busy."
Even with van Gaal on board, Brazil warns United fans they will be fooling themselves if they think they will bounce back immediately and become title contenders next term.
According to him, the days of United winning 13 league championships in 20 years (1993 to 2013) have gone.
He said: "It's not just about the emergence of Roman Abramovich at Chelsea."
"Man City now are massive. The money they have, the academy, the set-up, they are not doing it just for the next year, but for the next 10 years."
"They really are here to stay."
"There's no doubt Arsenal will spend money and get stronger, and it looks like Chelsea have got Diego Costa, and they will get other players as well, so they are stronger, too."
"Liverpool will improve their squad to cope with the Champions League demands, and Spurs will spend a lot of money again."
"United will first be battling for a Champions League spot every year, not the Premiership."
