Former S-League player and coach dies

SINGAPORE - Former S-League player-turned-coach Francis Thomas died aged 48, early Wednesday morning.

He had been battling bone cancer for more than a year.

He briefly played as a goalkeeper for Home United before becoming a goalkeeper coach with the Protectors, and then Hougang United.

Former national shot-stopper Lionel Lewis, who worked with Thomas at Home, said: "Francis was always there when you were down, and would always tell you to keep your chin up."

Thomas is survived by his wife, Mary, and daughter Rachel.
