I applaud Mr Khaw Boon Wan for agreeing to take up the thankless and tough job of transport minister ("PM names Cabinet aimed at leadership succession": yesterday).
He volunteered for the job of national development minister after the 2011 General Election, when public housing was a hot-button issue.
Through his competence and hard work, most of the housing issues have been resolved.
I am sure he will again be able to handle his new job as transport minister just as well.
But I hope Singaporeans will be more understanding and give him time to do the job well.
Any unrealistic expectation on performance cannot be helpful to anyone doing a job managing a wide-network public transport system which operates long hours every day.
