Good news! Free kopi

Here's how you can get your daily morning news and coffee fix for free next week.

And you can donate to a worthy cause at the same time.

The New Paper is teaming up with OWL for the fifth year in a row for a charity drive. The TNP-OWL Coffee Week will span five working days, starting on Monday.

Volunteers at various locations will be giving out free boxes of OWL coffee worth $2.80 and copies of TNP to the public. Ten thousand copies will be given out over the five days.

Recipients are encouraged to do their bit for charity and donate as much as they like.

Proceeds will go to Project Helping Hands, a joint charity project by TNP, Lions Befrienders and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, which seeks to help the elderly who live alone.

Their flats are being installed with wireless sensor alert systems that track movements.

If no motion is detected after a pre-set time, an SMS is sent to a caregiver or volunteer.

To mark OWL's 59th anniversary, one lucky TNP reader will find a special token in one of the free OWL coffee boxes. The winner will receive an OWL Coffee Hamper worth over $900.

Previous winner Julie Tung, 37, said: "A little charity goes a long way. The reward definitely outweighs the little amount of money I donated."

The senior financial consultant and her family have been enjoying their free coffee prize from 2013.

"This event helps drive awareness to get people to donate. Sometimes people want to donate, but they don't know where or how, so this gives them a chance (to)."
