GLASGOW - Kohei Uchimura extended his own record by winning the all-around for his sixth consecutive title at the World Gymnastics Championships here on Friday.
The 26-year-old Uchimura has now won seven consecutive titles in world-class competition, including the 2012 London Olympics.
The Japan Gymnastics Association previously determined the winner of worlds would be provisionally selected to the national team headed to next year's Rio de Janeiro Games, so Uchimura has virtually locked up a spot at his third straight Olympics.
Uchimura opened on the floor exercise by nailing his landings before showing off a number of smooth rotations in his pommel horse routine. He was nearly perfect on a rare and difficult manoeuvre on the vault.
