Have a taste of Bali's mysterious dining experience

As one of the country's most popular destinations, Bali is home to a variety of delicious local cuisine as well as restaurants serving amazing dishes from all over the world.

On a recent Mystery Dining Tour in Ubud, Bali Food Safari founder Simon Ward, who personally guided me on the tour, didn't give away any clues as to which restaurants, cafes, or other dining venues we would be heading to. He only shared that we might be visiting three or four venues.

The car apparently took us to Sayan village, around a 10-minute drive from downtown Ubud, home to one of the best spots to watch the sunset in the area. We later had an appetizer surrounded by lush trees in Sayan valley.

"We try to stop at a beautiful place to watch the sunset first on the tour, whether it be in Ubud, Jimbaran or Seminyak," said Ward.

The mysterious culinary journey grew more interesting with every stop.

The menu is indeed an important part of the tour. For example, you can expect to enjoy an Indonesian appetizer, Italian main course, South American dishes for another main course and later a Japanese dessert. There's a possibility that you could visit a five-star restaurant where a famous Michelin-star chef will join in, a popular bistro, a local family eatery where the owner themselves cook the meals served or a new hidden gem.
