SINGAPORE - A 10-month health screening and intervention programme has been introduced for ComfortDelGro taxi drivers as part of initiatives to keep mature workers healthy and active in the workplace.
Launched in collaboration with the Health Promotion Board (HPB), the complimentary "One for One: Check Car, Check Body!" programme will provide the cabbies with health screening and a seven-month health counselling and coaching session.
The key thrust of the programme is to motivate the taxi drivers to adopt healthy habits by allowing them to better understand their health status, said ComfortDelGro and the HPB in a joint statement today.
The programme will be carried out at the ComfortDelGro Taxi Service Centre so that drivers who are waiting for their cars to be serviced, a monthly maintenance routine, can get their health checked at a convenient time.
Senior Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor, who chairs the Tripartite Oversight Committee on Workplace Health, said: "Many mature workers have difficulties finding time to participate in health programmes. Hence, we are finding creative ways to bring the health programmes to their workplaces to make these more convenient and accessible.
"We are starting first with the taxi drivers, as many of them are mature workers, and we intend to expand such programmes to more sectors."
