An elderly woman in Beijing, China, had to be carried from her fifth-storey apartment into a waiting ambulance by four paramedics and three security guards after she fell into a coma on Oct 24.

Weighing 150kg, Yi, who is in her 60s, suffers from recurrent episodes of asthma and sleep apnea due to her obesity.

According to a NetEase report, the elderly woman had difficulty breathing that day and was using a ventilator at home before she fell into a coma from respiratory failure. Her family later called emergency services for help.

When paramedics arrived at Yi's home, they realised that the stretcher they brought along was too narrow to accommodate her bulky frame and had to use a quilt as a makeshift stretcher to carry her.

The ambulance was also too small for Yi and a larger one was deployed to send her to hospital.

Yi's condition has since been stabilised and she is now recuperating in Xiyuan Hospital.
