SINGAPORE - There is an instant solution for every beauty problem these days.

From bigger and more seductive eyes to longer hair and a flawless complexion, a cosmetic product or service is on hand and they often give near instant results.

But many of these quick-fixes can have negative consequences, especially when one does not observe aftercare rules or proper hygiene.

For example, the long-wearing properties of some foundations and BB creams and the fact that some even promise to fill every pore for a flawless-looking complexion, can cause clogged pores and pimples, says Dr Chan Yuin Chew, a dermatologist at Dermatology Associates at Gleneagles Medical Centre.

This occurs when one does not cleanse the skin thoroughly at the end of the day with an efficient make-up remover and proper cleansing routine.

Double- or triple-cleansing the skin will ensure that you get rid of all the make-up, sebum and dirt that clogs pores.

If you do it right, you will not have to be worried about stripping your skin of essential oils and dehydrating it.

Here are some tips and product recommendations by freelance make-up artist Dollei Seah of the Makeup Entourage, and Urban.
