5k girls brave rain to run with their BFFs in Nike race

SINGAPORE - More than 4,600 girls and their best friends forever (BFFs) took part in the second edition of the Nike Goddess 5K, despite a heavy downpour that begun barely an hour before the race start.

Held at Sentosa, the girls-only race allowed participants to register only in pairs.

Nike's first BFF race in South-east Asia, the theme was introduced to cast the spotlight on the strong emotional ties girls share with each other, be it running buddies, sisters or lifelong friends.

In addition, having girls sign up with their friends provides an incentive to join the race and 'get out there', said race winner Suzy Walsham.

Flagging off at 5.15pm, the Nike Goddess 5K started and finished at Sentosa Wave House. The new route brought the girls past Sentosa's beaches - Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach and Tanjong Beach - before looping back to Sentosa Wave House.

The girls were also treated to a host of complimentary treats, such as express manicures and foot massages, in the Race Village after the run.

Photo booths were also available for the BFFs to capture their special moments.

Later in the evening, hosts Rich and Holly from MTV Asia brought the girls a line-up of entertainment acts.

The night featured familiar local talents such as DJs TwoFace, bands 53A and Ukelele Girls, and a dance performances by the NUS Dance Blast Crew.
