SINGAPORE - Despite her 80 years of age, Madam Wang Hsien Ming was all set for a two-day, 100km bicycle ride across Singapore.
Along with 21 other volunteers from the Concern and Care Society, a voluntary welfare organisation in Bukit Batok which cares for seniors, she pedalled off yesterday morning. The oldest was 84 and the youngest, 51.
The 22 had decided on the bike trip to celebrate the graduation of the latest batch of volunteers.
Volunteers, who need to be 50 years or older, had learnt to sing, use sign language and conduct house visits, among other things, during their six-month-long training.
Yesterday, the "silver cyclists" started in Bukit Batok and headed to Changi Village, where they spent a night. They pedal back to Bukit Batok today.
