US actress Hayden Panettiere has checked into a treatment centre for postpartum depression, her rep said on Tuesday.

Celebrity magazines Us Weekly and People quoted a statement that said Panettiere, who had a girl in December 2014 with her fiance, professional Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko, was voluntarily seeking professional help.

The 26-year-old star of the hit musical drama "Nashville" has been open about her struggle with depression.

Her character Juliette Barnes in the series also battles postpartem depression.

"I suffered a bit of postpartum depression. You're not alone or crazy, ladies!" she recently revealed to Us Weekly.

She spoke further about the subject during a television show in September, saying she could relate to her character in "Nashville." "(Juliette) went through that, which was something that I can very much relate to and something that I know a lot of women experience," she said.

The actress at the weekend had posted an upbeat tweet on how happy she was to have regained her slim figure since she gave birth to 10-month-old Kaya.

"Feeling like I'm #finally coming back in to my own body! mother #daughter #blessing #wellworthit," she wrote.
