Having monthly menstrual cramps often correlates with the severity of endometriosis, but does not necessarily mean a higher chance of developing cysts.

Q: I experience cramps due to endometriosis. Do I have a higher chance of developing cysts since I get cramps every month?

A: Having monthly menstrual cramps often correlates with the severity of endometriosis but this does not necessarily mean that you will have a higher chance of developing endometriotic cysts. There are many women who experience severe menstrual cramps without any evidence of endometriotic cysts on ultrasound scan.

Having said that, the presence of endometriotic cysts are commonly associated with pelvic pain and menstrual cramps, especially if the cyst is large.
