Baby dies during procedure to draw blood at Malaysian clinic

SIBU - A routine procedure to draw blood for tests proved fatal for a 11/2-month-old baby at a government polyclinic here yesterday.

Fredthdeus Barrieng was brought by his parents, Jamil Dingai and Whileomina Sebai Micheal, both in their 20s, to the polyclinic at 9am yesterday to ascertain if the baby was suffering from a heart ailment so that he could be referred to a specialist.

During the procedure, the baby cried incessantly for about three minutes before he suddenly stopped and passed out.

A nurse brought the baby to a treatment room but he was pronounced dead.

The body was then sent to Sibu Hospital as the parents had requested for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of his death, police said.

Jamil and Whileomina reportedly said they would bury the body of their second child in their home village in Balingian.
