Bouquets: Doctor's exceptional care

SINGAPORE - I thank Dr Norhisham Main, the palliative team and staff of Ward 7 at Alexandra Hospital for their exceptional care of my mother, who was hospitalised there for close to three months.

Although my mother eventually succumbed to her illness and passed away two weeks ago, she was made very comfortable and was at peace.

Dr Norhisham provided suitable pain management right to the very end, often spending a long time with us to discuss the situation. He was very understanding of our beliefs and went out of his way, even on his days off, to attend to my mother.

Once, he was away travelling but called to check that a certain procedure was done for my mother. Another time, when he found out about the birthdays of my parents, which were just a few days apart, he bought a cake and celebrated with them.

He made my mother's last journey less painful and more meaningful.
