A 21-year-old patient, who lost her sight in the right eye to cancer when she was four years old, is now in need of funds to treat a second recurrence of the disease, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Vu Li Sean, from Johor Baru, has undergone more than 25 operations since her first diagnosis. When she was 11, she suffered a relapse when a malignant tumour was detected on her knee.
In 1997, the year she was diagnosed, Vu's father died of cancer. An older brother succumbed to the disease the following year. The young woman recently became unable to stand and walk due to a spinal tumour.
Major Chinese dailies reported on Vu's appeal for funds, through the MCA Youth Public Service and Social Welfare Bureau, for medical treatment at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
Bureau deputy chairman Alex Lee said her family could not afford the medical fees, which would cost between RM50,000 (S$19,400) and RM60,000.
