Doctors reattach father and son's penises

KUALA TERENGGANU - The penises of two men cut off in a bizarre incident in Dungun have been re-attached by doctors.

Doctors at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here are now waiting to see if the organs will function normally.

A 40-year-old mechanic chopped off his penis and his father's after failing to convince his family that the world was coming to an end.

The man and his 67-year-old father are in stable condition after the surgery, but the father is still in the ICU due to his age.

According to police, the mechanic would be remanded as soon as he recovered.

"We are going to question him and the other family members," state CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said. The man will also be referred to a psychiatrist.

The mechanic, who works in Balakong, Selangor, is believed to have been influenced by deviant religious teachings picked up from the Internet.

Before the attack on Sunday, he reportedly gave a long lecture to family members at his parents' home in Felda Kerteh 6.

He allegedly told everyone that the world would end soon.

He then attacked his father with his fists and a rotan (cane) in an attempt to make the older man cry.

Apparently, the tears would invoke the spirit of an imam who would then save the world from the apocalypse.

When he failed, the mechanic later stormed into his father's room with a kitchen knife and allegedly committed the brutal acts.

The mother, 66, who is still traumatised by the incident, said her son returned home about a week ago.

"He seemed fine until about a day before the attack, when I saw him dancing erratically in the living room," she said.

"But I did not suspect anything was wrong."
