Dr M in stable condition after chest infection

KUALA LUMPUR - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is reported to be in stable condition after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute on Monday.

The former premier is responding well to treatment after he was warded for chest infection.

His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, said Dr Mahathir, 88, was being treated in the general ward at IJN.

He was accompanied by his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, and daughter, Datuk Paduka Marina Mahathir.

"The doctors have advised that only close friends and family members should be allowed to visit him as he needs to rest," Sufi said.

Dr Mahathir is expected to remain warded for the next few days.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday visited Dr Mahathir at IJN yesterday.

Muhyiddin was accompanied by IJN chief operating officer Akmal Arief Mohamed Fauzi.
