The energy within us

Life is an energy phenomenon, and everything that occurs in our body involves an energy exchange or movement.

While science understands electromagnetism, gravity and nuclear forces, it has trouble recognising the life-force or qi (chi, ki, prana, tenaga hayat, etc) that all the traditional healing systems talk about.

For example, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), ill-health and disease can mostly be explained by imbalances of qi and blockages to its flow through the meridians that nourish the organ systems.

Scientific knowledge about electromagnetism and its impact on health has not been fully explored and exploited. Much of the research in this field have been done in Russia and the "Eastern bloc" (communist countries of the previous era) and Germany. It was only recently that these were discovered and improved upon in the West.

In this and the next few articles, I will assess several gadgets that utilise electromagnetic fields or other forms of energy/force to enhance our health and/or treat some diseases.

The human bio-energy field

Electrical, magnetic and electromagnetic forces play important roles in our body. Our cells are like tiny batteries with minute electrical charges, and ions actively and passively move from and into the cells as part of the body's metabolic activities.

The brain, nerves, heart and muscles function through electrical activity and we can assess their functions by studying their electrical signals. Healthy cells and organs produce healthy electrical signals, and any aberrations may be helped by externally-applied electrical or electromagnetic forces.

The body's electrical/electromagnetic activities together generate the electromagnetic field which is variously called as bio-electric field, bio-magnetic field, bio-energy field, etc.

This is different from the aura that also emanates from the body and that can be seen by certain gifted people. The bio-energy field indicates physical vitality, while the aura indicates spiritual, mental and emotional vitality.

All our tissues and organs emit electrical and electromagnetic signals that are unique to their type, and applying electrical currents of similar frequencies can influence their function. For example, some orthopaedic surgeons utilise electric currents to assist bone fracture union, and in many cases, this method is able to successfully treat previously "non-union" (failure to heal completely) cases.

In fact, any injury, inflammation or infection will cause the affected tissues to generate electrical signals (and chemicals, hormones enzymes, etc) that will initiate the repair and defence mechanisms, including attracting the right cells to the site.

Whenever there is a problem in the cell, the first abnormality that occurs is at the energy level. If this persists, then biochemical imbalances or aberrations result. This will cause a shift in the cellular homeostasis - the delicately maintained healthy state of the cell and its environment.

If the cellular repair mechanisms cannot rectify the problem, then a cascade of metabolic functions will be affected, resulting in progressive cellular damage and dysfunction. If many cells are affected, the tissue or organ as a whole will become dysfunctional.

Scientifically, all the energy needed by the cell is usually supplied by ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the cellular energy currency. But we know that just supplying the energy through the food we eat (measured in calories) does not solve our health problems. There are many more ingredients (nutrients) needed by the cells to function well.

In my opinion, the most poorly understood (and therefore neglected) requirement is bio-energy (electromagnetic as well as qi).

We can certainly enhance the body's health and healing processes by ensuring that the inherent subtle electric currents and magnetic fields are maintained at optimal levels.

To apply electric currents externally requires contact with the body. A novel way of inducing these subtle currents is to generate an electromagnetic field (EMF) over the desired body part, or even the whole body, using selected frequencies known to be beneficial to the targeted tissues and organs.

These health-enhancing extremely low-frequency (30 Hz or less) EMFs are not to be confused with the harmful EMFs of higher frequencies. The earth's magnetic field vibrates within this healthy range (0-30 Hz) and all our tissues benefit from EMFs of these frequencies. All life forms vibrate at around 10 Hz, and our different tissues respond well to frequencies of between one and 23 Hz.

Space-age technology

Unknown to the West, the Russians were way ahead in this field of research and application. The Russians conducted extensive studies on over 25,000 people and established an accurate system of analysing and re-enforcing the electrical health condition of the organs, and their connection to specific areas on the skin (dermal-visceral zones).

The Russian space programme uses this technology because it enables convenient and non-invasive monitoring and enhancing of the health of their cosmonauts. It is no accident that this technology is now made available here in association with our own Angkasawan (astronaut/cosmonaut).

Bio-resonance therapy

Recently I was invited to test out this system which generates pulsating electromagnetic fields of varying frequencies corresponding to the body organs' known frequencies. The externally generated EMFs cause small electric currents of corresponding frequencies to flow within the target tissues and enhance the weak inherent currents, promoting health and healing in these tissues. This is the bio-resonance effect.

This therapy is called Pulsating Energy Resonance Therapy (PERT) or Pulsating ElectroMagnetic Field Therapy (PEMFT), or Bio-Resonance Therapy.

The system involves lying down comfortably on a padded couch, and wearing a space-age eye-goggle that together generate the desired energy frequencies according to the computerised programme chosen. Each session lasts only 10 to 20 minutes, and is very relaxing.

Different programmes (ie different frequency combinations) are chosen to reduce stress, enhance energy level, improve blood circulation and immune system, strengthen muscles and bones, reduce pain, normalise blood pressure, rejuvenate skin and so forth.

Because the therapy works at the energy level, all cells, tissues and organs can benefit, which means anyone with any health problem or disease can try the therapy (except those with cardiac pacemakers and pregnant women).

Those who have health problems may experience immediate relief for some of their complaints, but repeated sessions are required for chronic problems.

The therapy can also be prophylactic, ie used to improve energy in the organs before the deficiencies progress to biochemical damage that translate to symptoms, and finally disease. For this purpose, a weekly session is advised.

Acugraph energy diagnosis

Before the therapy session, my energy level was diagnosed using the Acugraph energy diagnostic machine, which measures the energy levels through readings taken from selected acu-points on my hands and feet.

At my first session, my energy levels, distribution and balance were perfect, so there was no "correction" to be done. I was offered an energy enhancing therapy session and felt refreshed.

At my second session, I had not slept at all the previous night (reading, and doing research in preparation for an assignment) and was feeling exhausted and sleepy.

My Acugraph reading showed weakness in certain systems. I slept through the session, was still slightly tired after the therapy, and only realised later that I was able to continue the day without much problems.

I presume the therapy must have helped. I hope to continue with more sessions in the future.
